Or show some sack and do an onsides kick if you want the ball that bad!

Anyways, the college football rule would be okay, EXCEPT that they count all the stats as continuation of the game. Like....the quarterback threw for 8 touchdowns, when 4 of them were in overtime. And they won, 64-62.

It would make waaaay more sense (sorry, fantasy guys) to simply say the team won by 1 point. If it was 35-35 at the end of regulation, then the winners won, 36-35.

It's akin to counting shootout goals in hockey players' stats....which they don't.Brian in Oxfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053368055698118199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624629.post-1161607339993661742006-10-23T08:42:00.000-04:002006-10-23T08:42:00.000-04:00NLF Overtime is fine the way it is. I think I even heard an announcer use the phrase "hold serve" in a college game once. The "alternating red-zone tries until the game is no longer tied" thing is, whatever you think of it, at best a football-like substance.

Of course, with the professional version, it's not football either--it's a coin flip.

Compromise proposal: OT begins with a coin flip and a kickoff, as usual. However, the first possession is NOT sudden death. If the first OT possession results in points, the team that started on defense will get a chance to be on offense. If the game is no longer tied after each offense has had one series, then it's game over. However, if things are still tied after one possession each way, then sudden death kicks in.

Advantages: many more TD's in overtime, and the end of the cheap OT field goal. Team that loses coin flip actually has a shot.

Disadvantage: may actually result in ties happening more often than once every four years or whatever. (Part of the "advantage" of the current system is that it encourages OT games to end quickly. The TV guys love that.)markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02367754765898020281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624629.post-1161580293281271622006-10-23T01:11:00.000-04:002006-10-23T01:11:00.000-04:00I'm sad to say I'm a Jaguars fan but I KNEW we'd h...I'm sad to say I'm a Jaguars fan but I KNEW we'd have trouble with Houston.
