This is the player of THIS year award. It should not or isn't based on NBA potential or what a player did or did not do last year. Your argument for Kevin Love is purely speculative and hypothetical. If UCLA loses in the second round, then your entire argument is destroyed, and by your own admission, Love's legacy would be of a loser, and not of a great Pac 10 or UCLA player.

When looking at the stats, Hansbrough and Love share similarities. But just because Love plays on the team that you picked to win doesn't mean that he is the best player. Heck, Kevin Durant was player of the year last year. Is his legacy that of a loser? Was he not the best player because his team did not get to the second weekend?

I love reading your columns, but your anti-UNC attitude really turns this reader off. Not because I'm a Heels fan, but because I like seeing rationale in arguments, and honestly, there is nothing rationale in your argument for Kevin Love, only pure speculation and hypotheticals.

I can see the argument for Love vs. Hansbrough, but not based off your criteria. Thank goodness SN doesn't use the same criteria you use.

I'll continue to read. You're a great writer. But I strongly disagree with this notion, and will probably be rooting for UCLa to lose early to foil your argument.

I don't doubt Gholston is a very good player, but ...

I don't doubt Gholston is a very good player, but he seems to be taking the Mike Mamula route up the draft boards, which should be a little concerning if you're a fan of the Dolphins or the Rams. ...but since I'm a fan of the evil Patriots, I'd love to see Gholston go #1 or #2 and have Chris Long be the player that slips to #7.
