He turned San Francisco’s offense into the best in the league. Beyond being a great offensive coach, Bill mastered running an entire pro football organization. He figured out everything from the big picture down to the smallest detail and documented it in his book, Finding The Winning Edge, which was groundbreaking. It remains easily the most comprehensive and best modern day football book and is required reading for every coach. On a personal level, I am very fortunate to have developed a close friendship with Bill and my deepest condolences are with his family on this sad day."CMFosthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05291296862033162143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624629.post-44416569097612954282007-07-31T01:12:00.000-04:002007-07-31T01:12:00.000-04:00Not only was Bill Walsh was the coach, he was the ...Not only was Bill Walsh was the coach, he was the 49ers GM. He made tremendous deals in getting Fred Dean and "Hacksaw" Reynolds. Moreover, as an offensive-minded coach, he drafted 3 rookies in the secondary, Carlton Williamson, Eric Wright, and the great Ronnie Lott to win Super Bowl XVI!

He had tremendous sense of when to trade players before their peak and acquire skillful veterans to fit into his system, such as Wendell Tyler and Russ Francis. The only mistake that he admitted to making was trading Ronnie Lott too early.WuzUpGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17432324921980566815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624629.post-48777328301036252712007-07-30T18:32:00.000-04:002007-07-30T18:32:00.000-04:00and similarly for Parcells....
and similarly for Parcells....
Brian in Oxfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053368055698118199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624629.post-72064632718358726032007-07-30T17:55:00.000-04:002007-07-30T17:55:00.000-04:00don't forget that Walsh was under the great Paul B...don't forget that Walsh was under the great Paul Brown as wellJoeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00717708280637709412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624629.post-88611578371787453852007-07-30T17:29:00.000-04:002007-07-30T17:29:00.000-04:00If I counted right, there are 16 current head coac...If I counted right, there are 16 current head coaches on that tree.
