I don't think that ratings for the championship series should be used as a barometer. If that is the case, then a case could be made for baseball. Now hear me out, in 1997 the World Series average rating was a 16.8 (Florida vs. Cleveland). In 2007, the average was 10.6 (Rox vs. Sox, 16.8 to 6.2 for NBA). This has been the trend for championships consisting of 7 game series as of late. There could be 2 factors in my opinion for this 1)If the matchup is lopsided, viewership decreases big time from game 1 to game 4 2)They are just not as compelling as the one and done format. That is why NCAA and NFL are doing so well. You don't have to follow a series for 2 weeks to see who advances, it is only decided in one game.
