New Look Starting Tomorrow (Hopefully)

So about this "big announcement"...

Tonight, I'm going to attempt to migrate this blog over to another publishing system: From Blogspot to Wordpress. In addition, I'm going to attempt to migrate my working URL from danshanoff.blogspot.com to danshanoff.com.

From what my expert tech guru friend says, if you have danshanoff.blogspot.com bookmarked or blogrolled, it'll redirect to danshanoff.com. Nevertheless, I'm going to hammer you with requests to modify your bookmarks and blogrolls accordingly. Unless, of course, it doesn't take.

In the very short term, that means that Comments left after 6 p.m. or so may or may not make the migration. (Frankly, I'm a little nervous I'm going to lose comments, posts and anything else that has been built up over the last 2.5 months. But I've been assured it's a pretty simple switch. Famous last words...)

Anyway, this switch will hopefully result in a cleaner, faster site. The look might be a little different (because Wordpress blog templates are different than Blogspot templates), and I'll likely be tinkering with the look for the next week or so, but hopefully it'll all be for the better. As always, I'm absolutely open to all of your feedback about how it looks and works, etc. So hopefully starting tomorrow, we can start the process of the 2.0 version of this blog.

(Meanwhile, those of you who had "Dan got a job?!" in the "What's the announcement?" office pool are, unfortunately, not winners today. And, yes, I know that I didn't do an NFL Rankings this week. So I'm proposing that you use the remaining hours on the Comments this afternoon before the Switch-Over to offer your own... or maybe just big gainers or droppers...and why.)

Why rank the nfl teams, they have a playoff system, i believe, that makes ranking mute.

How does a ranking become silent?

I think you mean they become moo, like a cow's opinion.

I believe the word is moot

ben, I think you mean MOOT. On the other hand, I guess I like MUTE too.

Can you not tell the Manninghams?

A cow's opinion?

The word is most definitely MOOT.

Thank god Dan. Blogspot is horrible with cookies, everytime I came to read you I had to delete my cookies so the page would refresh correctly. Thanks for the insightful posts.

As a HUGE giants fan - i have to move them a little farther (7 or 8 spot right now) until they get a little healthier - once they get Osi, Strahan and Madison back for good they are going to be right up there though.

Wow, we have a whole comment section without talking about college football...oh wait, doh!

the cookies are obnoxious... and I really like cookies.

...What?

Anyway, I'm gonna say this as many times as possible while you're accepting input regarding style: make the font smaller or the main text section wider. Most of your updates take up two full screens at 1280x1024. Remember how small the Quickie was? We managed to read it.

And I've tried Ctrl + Scroll Wheel... it just makes things look weird.

Moo commenters, you've obviously never saw that 'Friends' eppy.

(Disclaimer: Bought my wife the boxed season set, and for 2 months she hogged the TV. Learn from my mistake.)

You should have a newspaper or something pick up your blog on their website, or link if from their website, and get paid of course. Then we don't lose out. Personally, I think this is better than the Quickie. It's easier to get to, and you update more often. To quote Borat, "It's nice."

Still no job eh? How's that Harvard MBA treatin' you now?

What is more lame not having a job or coming onto someone's site to make fun of them for not having one? Some people need to look in the mirror. He posts here for free, and we all get a nice site to express our views. I think Dan deserves a round of applause myself. Here's hoping all the best for you Dan.

i have to agree with the poster who said to make the font smaller/screen wider.

oh and getting rid of the troll, of course.

I would assume that Dan has some sort of income.

Ya'll are just jealous because you're reading his posts from your cubicles, wishing you had a job where you could wear jeans and talk about sports all day.

What I want to know is how much did you have to pay Charlie from Seattle for the name?

My silent rankings:
1. Da Bears
2. Manning the older
3. Manning the younger
4. LT2 and Associates
5. Ravens
6. Broncos
7, 8, 9. New Atlanta Seahawks
10+ does not matter.

too much change....TOO MUCH CHANGE!

Steve, I'm pretty sure you misunderstood what I was going for there. I respect Mr. Shanoff very much; otherwise it wouldn't make much sense for me to have followed him over here from his Page 2.

I was exceptionally disappointed when they canned the Daily Quickie. , and exceptionally delighted when I found out Mr. Shanoff would be continuing his work elsewhere. I look forward to his column everyday for his insightful views.

All I was doing was goofing on him because he brought up the Harvard MBA bit in another post with the disclaimer that he wasn't trying to name drop (though, he could have simply said that he picked up an MBA without mentioning the Ivy League, but I digress). I'm sorry if the humor was lost on you.

I third or fourth the font shrinking and comment column-widening.

And how about comment moderation? Some people's points are very insightful, while others are nothing more than trolls. This is a feature that many of the great blogs (slashdot comes to mind) have that no sports blogs seem to have. Why should I have to sift through ten GO BLUE EVERYONE's? And I'm a die hard Michigan fan!

Jason said...

Why should comments be heavily moderated and censored when the writer himself intentionally trolls?
