NFL Week 9 Live-Comment Tailgate

That was some tremendous work yesterday on the CFB Live-Commenting, my friends. I'm offline this morning watching the NYC Marathon live from the streets, so I don't want to miss the window to have our weekly NFL Live-Comment. Use the comments area on this post, and later this afternoon, I'll circle back. Should be an interesting day in the NFL. -- D.S.

Update: This has been one of those "If you think you know ANYTHING about the NFL, you don't" kind of days: Dolphins over Bears? Lions over Falcons? Anyone -- anyone?! -- see those coming? Is it possible that, suddenly, the Chiefs are the best team in the NFL, with Damon Huard as the league's most prolific QB? (A nice thought, but the No. 1 team in the NFL is the winner of tonight's game between the Colts and Pats.)

2 team, 6 point teaser of the weekend: CHI -7.5 vs MIA, SD -6.5 vs. CLE.

I think the Bengals beat the Ravens, and (surprise) the Pats handle the Colts.

I'll tell you that Chicago line is funny. It's been -13.5 since it came out last Sunday night. Almost 90% of the betting public is on Chicago. Yet the line is still -13.5. Usually books will adjust their line when action is heavy on one side.

Same thing when Chicago played Arizona on Monday night. Almost everyone was on Chicago and they didn't even cover.

So I'd be careful.

KC (+2.5) @ STL
CIN (+3) @ BAL
WAS (+3) vs DAL
BUF (-3.5) vs GB
TB (+1) vs NO
CHI (-13.5) vs MIA
NYG (-13) vs HOU
JAX (-9) vs TEN
DET (+5) vs ATL
SF (+5) vs MIN
DEN (+3) @ PIT
SD (-12.5) vs CLE
IND (+3) @ NE
SEA (-7) vs OAK

I'll also predict a TD for Tiki. He better get 1 before he retires.

Worldwide Reader said...

With my luck, the Bears will win by 7 and I'll lose by the half point. (Note the Cards game was on the road).

I also like teasing NYG to -6.5 and CIN up to +9. And I like DAL -3 straight up at WAS.

Worldwide Reader said...

Nep, are you actually wagering on ALL of those games - or are there a handful that you like more than the others?

(See Dan: you really should pick the games against the spread - some of us are interested in these things!)

nep1293 said...

I bet every game. I have a chart I've been working on and the best way to maximize my winnings is to pick em all. My picks aren't really designed for individual games but more for going 9-5 on the week.

The best bet according to the numbers I have is Buffalo (-3.5). But bet on JP Losman at your own risk. My computer doesn't recognize Favre vs Losman, just point spreads and statistical stuff.

Worldwide Reader said...

I'm not touching the game. Interesting - NO/TB line jumped to NO +1.5. Took them in a tease with ATL (I am a sucker for the teaser).

Best of luck.

Baltimore 14, Cincy 0, after less than 5 minutes and 2 Cincy turnovers. Yikes!

Steve said...

Urgent breaking news: I win the bet with my dad. Armstrong came in at 2:59:36. Yes!

Christian Thoma said...

The Packers are playing like absolute f@(#@ing b$##!tches on offense right now.

Christian Thoma said...

Oh, and TMQ is totally going to jump down Parcells' throat for going for 2 in the 2nd quarter.

"14-3 Dolphins over Bears

@#$%^&!"

It was almost 21-3 after the next kickoff.

Worldwide Reader said...

Interception return for a TD, and a special teams fumble recovery to set up another ... 14-3 Miami. Obviously.

Big goal line stop by Atlanta ...

Christian Thoma said...

If the Dolphins beat the Bears ... I have no idea how to finish this sentence.

Paul L Carter said...

Miami clinging to 14-10 lead at halftime. I can't imagine they'll come out with a win...Bears have the the momentum.

Christian Thoma said...

Methinks smack spoke too soon

Miami 21, Chicago 10

Paul L Carter said...

"Bears have the the momentum"

Did I really write that?

Bears just turned it over the third time in this game, and Wes Welker finds the end zone on a Joey Harrington pass.

Geez.

RexyBack said...

21-10... I'm going to give up on life if the Bears don't pull this crap back together

Christian Thoma said...

The Packers Defense is playing phenomenally this game (yeah, yeah, it's Buffalo, I know, but still). 110 yards total given up through almost 3 quarters. Bills are only on the board due to a long kickoff and an INT-for-TD.

This will be a very frustrating loss for the Packers if they don't come back.

Christian Thoma said...

TO just dropped a sure TD. Clown.

Liam said...

Las Vegas, sportsbooks, and bookies made a killing off Chicago not covering. Like I said earlier, the line didn't move a bit even though over 80% were on Chicago.

Paul L Carter said...

The only thing keeping Da Bears in this game is Joey Harrington continually missing his receivers in the second half. Miami sould be up by at least two touchdowns, if not three.

Ugly.

Steve said...

Good Lord, this Bears game is making my eyes bleed.

marcomarco said...

Bears lose, Pats win... Pats #1?

Christian Thoma said...

Bears lose, Pats win... Pats #1?

I think it's a given the winner of the Colts-Pats game is #1 in the rankings this week if the Bears lose.

marcomarco said...

I think it's a given

Never know, Dan-o has some crazy rankings depending on who's bandwagon he's hopped on this week

Christian Thoma said...

Ok, well let me say it should be a given.

Dallas is really wishing they had that XP right now.

Christian Thoma said...

Also, I think we've all been blinded by the Bears-Dolphins game that we missed Detroit beating the Falcons 27-14.

Meet the New Vick, Same as the Old Vick.

Christian Thoma said...

SON OF A FRAKKIN AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH

*deep breath*

F'ing Packers.

Steve said...

blinded... literally, yes. The um Dolphins are who we thought they were? yikes

Paul L Carter said...

Oh man. Da Bears should have just punted it away: now down 28-13 after a stupid interception thrown by Grossman, Miami scoring on the next play.

TMQ is probabaly writing the words "Game Over" in his notebook. And about "The Other Shoe Dropping."

Steve said...

Meet the new Favre, same as the old Favre. hahaha

marcomarco said...

Irony: Miami was 0-7 against the spread until this week.

Moral of the story? Vegas always wins.

RexyBack said...

28-13!?!?

Good lord... Rex looks terrified of each and every footstep he hears

I don't even know what to say, I hate life

Christian Thoma said...

steve,

I was going to say that, but not in this case. The pass was tipped by the defender, it wasn't one of his typical "throw it into the arms of a defender" INT.

Of course, that statement's nonsensical because the Old Favre is a 3-time MVP.

Steve said...

haha I know, I was just jabbing you a little, Favre's actually been decent this year.

Christian Thoma said...

If someone had told me that the only NFC North team to win today would be the Lions, I would've said they were nuts. (Yes, I know Minny still needs to play. Er, don't bet on them).

Vanderjagt for the win...

Christian Thoma said...

BLOCKED!

Wow, I bet Parcells REALLY wishes he had that XP now. Looks like we're going to OT (we'll have to see what this flag is, first)

Steve said...

sweet, I hate Vanderjerkt.

Paul L Carter said...

This is why Da Bears are losing: 3 fumbles lost, 3 interceptions thrown, and Miami has scored all 28 points off those six turnovers.

Christian Thoma said...

It looks like the Redskins are going to have a figgie attempt with :00 remaining! OH MY!

Christian Thoma said...

OMG HE MADE IT! THEY'RE GOING NUTS IN WASHINGTON!!!!!!

Kevin said...

Skins win!!! Amazing game.

Lew said...

Redskins game quite possibly the most insane finish of all time. One missed field goal, one blocked

All of this on the final minue:

Redskins miss a field goal, Cowboys drive the field and miss a field goal as time expires, but on the return there is a penalty that gives the redskins a last second chance for the game winning field goal

Christian Thoma said...

...and just think, if Parcells had just gone for the XP instead of 2, they could've knelt after the Redskins missed the FG.

Some coaching genius.

Steve said...

Not sure anyone else has noticed but Simmons is 1-8 on his picks against the spread with only the Lions coming through for him. He might want to hide out from his bookie for a while.

Christian Thoma said...

How's the Sports Gal doing?

Christian Thoma said...

Actually, I should lay off Parcells. I'm sure TMQ will take care of that.

I will, however, point out that TO muffed a TD. The ball was perfectly thrown, he had beat the defenders, and he juggled/dropped it.

The Cowboys lost because of TO!

Steve said...

The Gal is 3-6, which is good, I was getting a little worried that he'd come back, but she's padded her lead a bit so far.

RexyBack said...

Anyone who says one word about comparing the 2006 Bears and the 1985 Bears and Miami losses is going to get punched in the face

I am so bitter... this is not the year and the Bears peaked WAY too soon. I thought Arizona was supposed to be our lesson

Liam said...

Denver up 14-0 already and only 4 mins off the clock.

Anyone else think Pittsburgh's Super Bowl win was a fluke?

Paul L Carter said...

Most amazing: Miami actually covered the spread.

Lew said...

The Steelers appear to be the most unmotivated defending champs of all time. If anything, if they lose this game it can't be blamed on Big Ben.

Did someone just hock a loogie in the booth during den/pit?

any else hear this?

Aside from the Yankees, there's nothing i hate more than hearing about the Dolphins cracking champagne when the last undefeated team loses.

That being said, I still hope to see plenty of the "Manning Face" tonight.

Go Pats.

Christian Thoma said...

marcomarco:

That's ok, I crack a bottle of champagne every time one of them dies.

(I'm kidding!)

Is anyone watching the 49ers-Vikes game? If so, I'm very very sorry.

Steve said...

Yep some people are, not me, but some are. Here's who:

Man it must suck to live in the bay area this year huh?

Ingrid and Jim said...

It never sucks to live in the Bay Area. I'll gladly take our terrible teams over Chicago's or Boston's weather.

That said, thank the lord for Sunday Ticket.

WuzUpG said...

I'd feel more sorry for the Minne"snow"ta fans. The 49ers beat the Vikes!

Self-quoted for truth.

My Steelers are now officially done shooting themselves in the foot. It's now become a double barrel shotgun in their mouth, blowing their brains out of the back of their heads.

2 team, 6 point teaser of the weekend: CHI -7.5 vs MIA, SD -6.5 vs. CLE.

Teasers already dead, but that Brown FG covered 6.5 too. (24-18)

Keep posting your stuff, i'll just bet the opposite

@ryan from falmouth ma:

YES! I totally heard somebody hock a loogie in the booth. I think it was Simms talking, so it had to be Nantz. No way was it a fan, maybe his mic didn't get turned off or something. Sounded like a pretty big one too.

How nerve wracking was that 2pt'er?

32-18 covering 12.5

jesus, did anyone flip over to the memphis game after the colts went up 7-0 and see that kid have his leg bent at completely the wrong angle? It gave me chills.

Christian Thoma said...

Are we going to see any punts in the Indy-Pats game? Based on the game so far, I say No.

Steve said...

Brings back memories of Tecmo huh?

Steve said...

What is up with the total BS calls in this game both ways? Not a good game for the refs at all.
