Saturday 10/27 (Very) Quickie

Rainy day = Zero guilt about sitting in front of the TV from noon to midnight watching college football and Game 3 of the World Series.

CFB Today: West Virginia at Rutgers in a nooner, Cocktail Party at 3:30, Ohio State at Penn State in the night game, with an eye on unbeatens Arizona State and Kansas, as well as that huge USC at Oregon game. That covers most of the remaining BCS contenders playing today.

W.S. Game 3: Papi will start at first base, with Youkilis on the bench. It's a tough choice, either way. I suspect this is the right way to go, with Youk available off the bench to pinch hit and be a defensive replacement at 1B in the later innings.

Chargers to host game vs. Texans in San Diego: Good. The region could use the distraction.

Genarlow Wilson freed: Justice delayed, but at least it was justice eventually.

NBA Preseason finales: Kevin Garnett goes triple-double on the Cavs (21-13-10), in a nicely symbolic victory by the Celtics, foreshadowing his 07-08 MVP season and the Celtics' inevitable dethroning of Cleveland as the Eastern Conference champs. (Oops: I just gave away the two big headlines of the remainder of my NBA preview on Monday and Tuesday. A special bonus for readers who bother to check the blog on weekends.)

Injuries: Mike Bibby out up to two months with a thumb injury, a hazard of playing stars during the preseason.

Feel free to track the day's college football events in the comments section...

I think it's a toss-up -- to play starts in the preseason or not. Sure, they are going to be starters in the regular season so they have nothing to prove. But, they don't get game speed rhythm and timing. I think LdT takes 3-4 weeks to get going every year in the regular season, which may cost SD this year, since they are trying to come back from behind.

Mississippi St. is beating Kentucky. LSU's loss is not a good loss. Can people please quit sucking off the SEC? Most.Overrated.Conference.Ever.

What if Kentucky loses to Miss St today (Bulldogs got SHELLED by WVU by the way)? They still play at Georgia, at Vandy and Tennessee. Thye could be 8-4, 7-5 easy.

How could you consider LSU a national title contender if they lost to a team that went 4-4 or worse in their conference.

I have a feeling this will be a moot argument went LSU loses one more along the way.

BULLDOGS 24 KENTUCKY 7. 3rd Quarter.

Guess change of coach doesn't change the culture at Sparty. Tough loss to OSU last week, and now gagging up a 14 point haltime lead vs. Iowa.

Kentucky has a good chance to come all the way back, but if they lose it will be a very bad game against "idle" for LSU.

Im at the cocktail party and damn if the UGA fans are kinda resigned that they have no chance in this game. Oh shit kickoff.

Miami (OHIO!) 13 Vandy 10. 3rd Quarter.

SEC POWWWRRRRRRRRRR!!

USC, Florida and Ohio St. losing all in the same week would definitely completely the overrated team, douchey-fan loss hat trick. Come on Nittany Lions!

@ steve:

Amen. The SEC is overrated this year. Just look at South Carolina losing to Vandy. That certainly weakens Dan's strength of schedule argument. I hate when people use the computers to defend a position as well. Guess who creates the algorithms the computers use? That's right, good old fallible people. The computers carry the biases of those who created the programs.

I think my cousins were trying to psyche me out by claiming they had now chance to win. If we can come back for the win this might be one of the all time classic in UF/UGA history. It does seem a bit sloppy though. OMG what a return. try to post later.

In watching the TX-NU game, I have to ask: is olympic speed faster than SEC speed?

The Philadelphia Flyers are a dirty team!

So does everyone in the SEC get to count beating Florida as a quality win?

I can't pick my jaw up off the ground. Twice meyer has messed up using the clock in two of our losses. Aub and LSU were close but we were beaten like redheaded stepchildren today. Our line sucked. I guess since my mom probably won't be around for any more of these games UGA had to win one for her. UGA's rb was as good as herschel in his prime. Both times we have won a title LSu and UGA beat us the next year. Thank god for

The upside of being an Atlanta Falcons fan is that most of us are also UGA fans...

@ mr. ed

So where's the upside for Falcons fans who root for Tech?

nsrrder said...

Gonzo,

Ummm....there isn't any. At least the Falcons didn't draft Reggie Ball. There...that's a silver lining, right?

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lolz. I heart UF's season.

Also, the "SEC is great" argument really banks on Mississippi State being a really solid, quality team this year. I love that.
