Thank god you are still going to be around (outside of N.Y.). Are you going to be blogging daily, weekly, monthly....or hopefully a few a day? Keep writing, you have a gift of truth.

Sorry to see the Quickie end. It was first on my agenda when I got to work in the morning.

i will bookmark this site and check it every morning, like i did the daily quickie. i loved the daily quickie, to which my son would tell me, -- then why don't you marry it?

Why did the Quickie end? It was one of the best things on ESPN.com.

Add me to the list of people wondering if you can say here why the Quickie is no longer being published. If Paul Shirley can criticize ESPN on his myspace, surely you can divulge some (classified?) information here. Thanks for the great work over the years.

Can we get some inside scoop?

it was the best column on espn, doesn't make any sense to stop.

Glad to know you are still writing. The Morning Quickie was the best part of my sports day.

the end of the daily quickie is indeed a sad day. it quickly (ironically enough) became my morning respite...wide brush strokes of acute observations ... one of the best recurring articles ESPN has ever had... thank you.

Sad to see the Quickie go...I don't know what I am going to do tomorrow when I go on my daily bookmark tour and there is nothing there...I might cry...a little...

Thank goodness for this blog. I read the Daily Quickie every day a few minutes after I wake up. I don't know what I would've done without a replacement.

Did ESPN give you the axe? It sucks if they did. I used to print out the quickie and a few other articles for my daily shit break. Now what am I going to wipe my ass with? Ok, just kidding; good luck your article kept my sanity here at work.

The DQ just plain old rocked! Best condensed daily sports digest out there. Topical, witty, funny, a great daily treat.

ESPN is stupid for letting it end for whatever reason. Hope to see the quickie spirit live on here.

Here is something to talk about- why is Notre Dame ranked so high?

They didn't beat a SINGLE RANKED TEAM last year.

Anonymous said...

So what happened? To get back Easterbrook they had to fire you??? What is going on with Page 2?!? Do they not realize that you kept everything even, every other writer had thier biases and sports love but you were like the Daily News telling you all the goings on in sports. ESPN YOU ARE FOOLS!!1

Anonymous said...

Can't believe the ride is over!

I loved reading the DQ every morning, and agreeing/disagreeing with your views. It was one of the high points of my day. So sad to see it's gone, but it does leave me with a lot of questions that the other readers have posed...

What on earth happened? Not wanting to pry, but everyone who's addicted to your column wouldn't mind some closure if possible. :)

Regardless, it'll be nice to check in and read your words here. (And avoid extra stories about T.O. at the same time... oh wait, that may not be possible anywhere on this planet... Noooooooooooooo.....)

Thank you for the columns. Your daily publication made the workday mornings bearable and entertaining. Now I have no reason for my daily visit to espn.com, because the 5 other things I am allowed to read on the site without my 'insider' status hold no interest to me. The broad coverage of everything sports along with your quick wit made for a great column. I look forward to reading you here.

Seriously, I stopped reading the DQ a couple of years ago. How can there be this many people who are sports fans who actually like this guy's take on sports? It is what's wrong with ESPN, attaching instant historical significance, BEST.EVER. nonsense, why some team has ZERO CHANCE EVER and yet they win that night, forcing opinion as fact. Choosing a team because of his wife. (or maybe because they are the BEST BASKETBALL TEAM EVER (this year)) I'm so glad you are regulated to this anonymous world of blogging. Nothing says "April Fools" like the gridlock of bandwagoneers sure this is the year Roy Williams defies his history and wins that elusive title.

Now that I can't use the age-old "Red Sox win the World Series!" April Fool's joke, it falls on "Roy Williams wins a title!" to carry the load.

Don't go emailing me if UNC wins on Saturday night (see 3rd item). Your triumphalism will be answered on Monday morning, when I pick whoever wins the Illinois-Louisville game (see next item) to win the title game.

In exchange, I promise not to gloat on Monday if/when UNC loses to Michigan State.

Seattle inks star Alexander to 1-year deal that allows Shaun to be a complete free agent after this season. (via ESPN.com's Len P.)

Anyone else notice an incentive problem? How can Alexander have both eyes on the goal line in front of him when one eye will always be on 2006?
