Now THIS is a little weird...

If it's a weekday morning, this is the first time since December 2003 that I haven't gotten up at the crack of dawn to create and file the Quickie.

I'm still getting used to a couple of things: Not having a strict deadline and not having any space constraints among them.

I can say one thing off the bat: I was overwhelmed by the amount of supportive emails sent by readers. (And by the number of people willing to check out the blog yesterday.) I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Now, back to the writing...

Because, oh, THIS is sort of huge.

While Greece being the one to beat the USA is huge, the fact that the USA lost is not. I think a lot of people saw it coming from a mile away.

If you think the USA doesn't have the best players in the world you're on something. Int. Hoops is played on a weird court with weird rules and awful refs. We still don't have our best team out there. I've stopped caring about Int. hoops until they adopt a NBA court and rules.

here come the people sucking up....

if we don't get some people who can shoot and some body willing to defend the pick & roll, we will not beat the good int'l teams for quite a while

Now it will be fun to see them lose to Argentina in the bronze medal game.....

so Jon is either an idiot or racist...which one Jon?

the NY Times is a fabrication, use a better article/example. NYC = overrated, or dud as you say.

so how many MQ "regulars" are sitting here with their faces pressed up to the computer screen crying right now?

As soon as I saw Team USA lost I thought "Oh man, I can't wait for the Quickie.. "

Oops.

I think you and I, along with many others, knew this was coming. Coach K finally even admitted it was likely his fault they lost. He has never been able to coach in tough games (just ask Jim Calhoun).

On this same topic of amazing news...let's not forget Agassi's second straight, late survival, at the Open.

On a side note - how many MQ reg's are going to boycot the Buzz chat because it's stealing the idea from our boy!

International basketball is more enjoyable to watch than the NBA, and has great intensity. Agassi's win was pure theatre, but a big dud to Gael Monfils for ending my run in the US Open suicide pool...

Damn it, I miss the Quickie!!!

It's kinda weird not having it in my morning "I gotta check the internet to avoid real qork" routine.

Is anyone really surprised about team USA losing? Honestly? I don't even follow basketball that closely and I could see this coming.

And big ups to Andre for a gutsy performance last night. When Baghdatis squared it up at 2 sets a piece, I thought it might be the end. But Andre stood up and eeked out another one. the questions is, can he do it again?

Anyone catch Alex Rios' play last night?

What up Northwestern!

I agree, Dan. 9-10am has been a bore without the MQ. Especially after such a big sports night on Thursday! CFB begins!

What up Northwestern? Ugh. Well, glad your boys won, Dan. Though I wish they hadn't. On to Purdue!

Dan,

I'm sorry if I sounded harsh about you leaving ESPN in my last email. I'm glad to see that you're staying online. Hopefully you didn't take my words personally and just forwarded the email to the honchos at ESPN for taking you off.

Best of luck,
