A Note About Comments

I love 99 percent of the comments made on the blog. I can't get enough. They're clever and insightful and usually take anything I've written to a much more interesting level. However, I'm pretty close to changing the "Comments" system to "registered users only." 90 percent of the comments made are already by registered users, and even though SOME "anonymous" comments are very good, others are just a distraction. "Registered" comments won't necessarily end the dumb comments, but they will clear out at least some of the junk without making it too difficult for most of you to keep delivering your awesome adds to the discussion. Thoughts?

Looking for today's Quickie-ish wrap? Check out the next item below.

Update (1:53 p.m.): Thanks to everyone who chimed in using the Comments area. I'm going to make commenting a "registered only" thing... at least for now. We'll see how it goes. From my understanding, you don't have to actually set up a blog to become registered. You can simply get a registration name and away you go. I appreciate everyone's understanding on this, and hopefully it'll lead to more enjoyment for everyone.

I'd be happy to register (and as an added bonus refrain from inane comments).

You can't just remove the anonymous? I don't want a blog...and always use my name...so don't want to register.

But, if I must...I probably will.

I'm a fan of registration

Yes, do this yesterday.

I will register if that is what it takes, I already visit this site first every morning like I did the Quickie this is better though since you get to read peoples posts and comments to everything.

NO DS!!! LET ME KEEP WRITING STUPID SHIT ON YOUR WORTHLESS SITE SO I CAN LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW MUCH OF A ............. just trying to make a point. I'll sign in the next time i comment on something.

I guess I'm ok with it (since I'm already registered). However, it loses its Quickie style...but I guess I can just sign things:

Registring makes sense and gives a modicum of accountability.

For you, go registered. People can always create an extra registered account if they want to go by their quickie titles (if they use something else online). Also, you might want to consider going to the word verification before you get too much spam...

In the meantime, just keep writing. Your views are what keep me coming in, even if I think some of your leaps in logic are defenseless - it still is an interesting viewpoint.

Stupid question: If I register, do I get a blog? Because, uh, I don't want one.

I don't want a blog either and thought I had registered, but apparently not...

Doesn't matter to me.

Make 'em register.
Keep the anonymous dirt talkes out of here

Don't make it registered only. I like being able to post under the "other" identity without having to register and make my own blog.

The one thing I like about anonymity on here is people can post comments to you without worrying that some jackass who happens to be really bored and has too much time on their hands would follow the links from someone's username to their blog and start harassing them.

Stopping anonymous comments does not stop stupid comments. People that want to make stupid comments can still login and say what they want. As Chris said in the first comment, the only way to get rid of them is to turn on moderation.

It might make it a pain for some, but most will register if they want to participate.

you run the show... making people register to post will not turn people away.

bryan is an absolute douche, look at that shirt.

One thing of note: Anyone to registers to blogger can still opt to use a typed display name.

I never knew this until today.

Definitely register. I hate anonymous comments. It's not like someone is gonna track you down and beat you up because of an internet comment, so put your name on it damn it. It's your opinion, own it.

cut the Anon comments. even our lawless society over at www.sonsofkc.blogspot.com has cut em off.

do it.

secondly, to the readers.. you can register for Blogspot and not "have a blog". it's just giving you a user name. if youre too lazy to sign up for a name and password, then shuddit.

i agree with iamunstoppable. make it registered only. no, you dont have to "start a blog" if you sign up.

my buddy who writes the DiaTribe did it soon into starting up his Indians blog last year.

This was really helpful, everyone. I'm going to go with registered comments and not look back. Your comments are awesome.

Hey, Charlie (Seattle) -- drop me an email at danshanoff-at-gmail and let me know how I can contact you. And thanks for looking out for me!

Haha I can only speak for myself but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable going to quickiewithdan.com every morning.
