Speaking of Favre, how come no mention of 3 straight games with no interceptions? Of course, we should be seeing Aaron Rodgers play instead of Favre, right Dan?

Paris Hilton? Yikes. Bad times for ESPN. They couldn't get Prince?

Is it just me, or is Favre's assault on Dan Marino's career passing TD record (which he's sitting 14 away from tying at the moment) one of the quietest storylines of the season?

Because barring grievous injury, Peyton Manning will destroy the record in something like 6 years. Personally, I think Brett is more interested in the Wins record (held by Elway); I think if the Pack go 8-8 he ties it, and 9-7 he beats it. Of course, Manning will probably destroy that record too.

Ah yes, Pats doing what they always do...

Forcing turnovers inside the 20 and exposing overrated teams.

Holmgren just said Alexander won't be playing on Monday night. The Madden Curse continues to wield its evil influence! Of course, Seattle is playing Oakland, so one suspects that Holmgren would've limited Alexander in the game anyway. I mean, who uses an injured top player against Oakland?

Peyton is just amazing. He went 32/39 yesterday for 345 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. That is crazy. Also even stranger is that Vick had a higher passer rating with a lower completion percentage and less yards and less pass attempts. He did average 2 yards per completion more which tells me the formula needs tweaking. Anyone know the formula?

As a NYer, I have a natural disdain of anything related to Boston sports. Also I should hate Belichick for leaving the Jets the day before he was to take over the team. The Pats success could have been the Jet's. But yet I can't hate him. I actually think he is one of the great coaches of our time in any sport. He would look good in a weathered old Jets sweatshirt though.

I think the MNF crew is about to announce that Brady has just discovered the cure for cancer. The collective man-crush they have is amazing.

re: chrth - that sucks for Alexander and his fantasy owners - he's always lights-out in prime-time. I don't remember the stats, but he averages something crazy when playing night games - every time he's under the lights, he comes up big. (Am I the only one who remembers this? It was a big story sometime ~2-3 years ago...)

Since someone asked :

Passer Rating = ((completions/attempts)*100-30) / 20

Makes sense, right?

Also, since this is a MNF thread, GO PATS! Just looking sick tonight. Every time they make a mistake they make up for it with an amazing play.

I'm rooting for the Pats, but even I found this ridiculous...

Michelle Tafoya: Warren Moon, you played with Brad Johnson... so, what do you think about Tom Brady when he catches fire?

A Patriots player could shank someone on the other team in the kidneys and the refs would call a penalty on the stabbed player.

Illegal contact? Why don't they just call the game and award it to the Patriots and save time.

Bold Prediction of the Week:

Next Week's Indy/N.E. Sunday Night Game will have the highest ratings of any game, on any network, of the season.

Including the Super Bowl.

Admittedly, I've been drinking tonight.

Bobman said...

I'm a Pats fan and I have to call shenanigans on a few of these calls going the Pats way. That illegal contact call was apparently just made up out of thin air.

That being said, even if these calls had all been reversed, the score would still be well in favor of the Pats, so who really cares?

Myles! said...

Better ratings than when they meet again in the AFC Championship?

agreed with bobman. The illegal contact was a joke, and Wiggins clearly caught the ball and fumbled, but it really doesn't matter. It's not a conspiracy, and it's not like the Pats need to have the game given to them anyways. They're doing just fine thrashing the Vikes on their own, thanks.

tirico needs to lay off the lame ass anecdotes. enough already. jesus.

nice job, belichick. keep throwing the ball. i mean, you're only up 24 points in the 4th qtr. douchebag.

how many concussions didn't steve young have?

in the postgame he just said "It's not just about who has better players, it's also about tactics. It's about one coach going out there and being able to out-tactic(?!?!?!) another"

No. Comment.

I don't know what was worse tonight.

Paris Hilton
The Lame ESPN Mascot Race
The Minnesota Vikings

I'm going to say a three way tie cause I can't pick just one.

The mascot race. That was the most idiotic thing I've seen in ages.

The Vikes were pretty dismal too, but while dismal is bad enough, nothing can excuse tacky. And that mascot race was tacky.

Why can't ESPN just let the game sell itself?

What a game next week! Raiders vs. Seahawks. Seneca Wallace vs. Andrew Walters.....sounds like a night of rest for the Tivo, Heroes, going to bed early and the lowest ratings ever for a Monday Night game.

Over/under on Tony having Seneca Wallace on his fantasy team next week? ESPN really messed up Monday Night football. They need a do over.

There was a time when Favre was throwing 35+ TDs per year like Peyton is now. Then the team changed (injuries, free agency, retirement, old age) and his productions dropped off. The same could happen to Peyton within the next couple years. I think it's still pretty likely that Peyton will break a lot of Favre and Marino's records, but let's not "crown his ass" yet.

Christian Thoma said...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Favre-backer and I don't care for Peyton at all. But facts are facts; Peyton has reached in less than 8.5 seasons (259 TDs) what took Brett over 10 seasons (255 his first 10 seasons). That's a season-and-a-half advantage.

But in all honesty, who cares? Marino has all the records, but no championships to show for it. Manning can have the same. If Marino held the Wins record, I bet Favre wouldn't care about it...but since it's Elway (by 1 over Marino), I think Favre wants to beat it.

Sounds like it's a good thing I don't get ESPN and get to listen on the radio! Is it really that bad?

Could NE really win 4 SBs in 6 years? Only the Steel Curtain has done that. The Pats can run when they want to (236 yds vs CIN) and pass when they want to (last night). As long as their defense has a good supply of Ensure, they might do it.
