CFB Weekend Preview:
1-Loss Teams Jockey

Louisville-WVA: What's it all mean?

Friday 11/03 A.M. Quickie

With No. 1 Ohio St and No. 2 Michigan having gimmes this weekend, the focus shifts to the one-loss teams on the outside of the BCS looking in, jockeying for position:

Most notably, Tennessee can boost its cred immeasurably (or KO themselves for good) with a win over LSU, the best 2-loss team in college football.

And staying in the SEC, still-underrated (12) Arkansas has a trap game at South Carolina. Auburn has never rooted harder for Steve Spurrier.

Here's the Top 25 rundown:
(Upsets in bold)

1 Ohio St over at Illinois
2 Michigan over Ball St.
4 Texas over Oklahoma St.
6 Auburn over Arkansas St.
7 Florida over at Vandy
13 LSU over at 8 Tennessee
9 USC over at Stanford
10 Cal over UCLA
South Carolina over 12 Arkansas
16 BC over at 22 Wake Forest
17 Wisconsin over Penn St.
21 Texas AM over 18 Oklahoma
19 Clemson over Maryland
NC St. over 20 GA Tech
Miami over 23 VA Tech
24 Oregon over Washington
25 Washington St over Arizona

Comments Question: What are your biggest storylines for the weekend in college football?

I know this will get me eviscerated, but I'm picking a Vandy upset this weekend. No real reason why, it's just something I'm feeling.

I also hope Wake beats BC, because Wake in the BCS would be awesome.

Dan, too afraid to make a pick in the ND-NC game?!

NC State?? Hm. Don't think I'll go along with that one.

I'm also picking Penn St. over Wisky.

I'd say the biggest story of the weekend is where the Louisville win last night puts them in the BCS, presuming Florida handles their business at Vanderbilt....

This is Chuck Amato's yearly "big win to save my job", so of course he's going to beat GT.

Here's the one you mistakenly deleted before submitting:

11 Notre Dame over North Carolina

You really really hate ND don't you Dan - won't even put them up in the predictions. Ouch.

Here's hoping for an Illini major upset this weekend. Sorry, hate the buckeyes and would be thoroughly amused by that. Besides, when they beat Michigan, it would make the whole BCS title game talk so much more interesting if all the major players had 1 loss to level the playing field.

Biggest story of the weekend?

Boston College vs. Wake Forest with the ACC Atlantic division on the line.

Biggest game next week is Rutgers/Louisville.

And the award for "most unlikely pair of statements 3 months ago" goes to....

Nice job on the freudian slip an omitting the ND-UNC game (as many have noted). The good news, the more you hate them, the more you can't curse them :)

Wake makes me really nervous. BC and Wake have had some awesome games over the years, and I bet this one will be too. After watching every BC game this year (except Maine), I can tell you they're sort of playing with house money, and I wouldn't be shocked if they were in store for a letdown this week.

I haven't seen enough of Wake this year to know how well we matchup against them, but it should be a good game.

Go Eagles! And Dan, you're still not forgiven for ranking Clemson above BC.

I hope they don't, but I fully expect the Wreck to go to Raleigh and put out a clunker.

It has all the makings...

chrth--Considering how close Vandy always plays UF, including (2?)OT last year, I'm not really shocked by that upset pick.

However, I think the Gator defense is just too good this year. Gators by 18.

I can't believe FOUR Pac 10 teams in the top 25? It won't last. Figure two of those to be upsets. At least two.

Imagine the TV execs reaction when they might have to promote Wake Forest vs Rutgers in the Orange Bowl.

Crazy headline of the week

TEMPLE WINS 2ND STRAIGHT!!!

It's nice not to see 62-0 next to them for a change
