YYYYYEEEEESSSSS!!! DUKE LOSES TO VCU!

Have you EVER been more happy about a first-round NCAA Tournament result??!?!?

I haven't.

(And I called it.)

But that is SO much less important than Duke losing. And it was SOOOOO sweet. VCU was incredible. Who else just KNEW this was one of "those" games that Duke ALWAYS wins.

NOT TONIGHT!!!

I'm flipping out. I'm giddy.

(And how sweet -- HOW SWEET -- is it that on a day of games where EVERY favorite won, Duke lost. Just the icing on the top.)

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

It was definitely one of those "either Duke will lose first round or totally go elite 8" feelings I had. Luckily, I picked them to lose first round.

That game, by itself, made up for the rest of the crap we've had to sit through today. I'm fired up. I'm even ready for more of BYU and Xavier right now.

Dan, That is the irony of the whole thing. All the favorites where winning and you figured with that Duke was going to win and it sweet that they become the only Favorite So far to LOSE.

Plus it is DUKE, and that makes it all the better.

The last 15 minutes have been pretty sweet. Get to watch Duke lose and then right after that watch the Bruins beat the Capitals in a shoot out

Joe, I got what might be the game of the night behing the Duke lose and that is the Gonzaga/Indiana Game

mediapossum said...

What makes it sweeter is that two people in my pool had Duke going to the Final Four. If you're giddy, I'm overjoyed!

And wasn't Clark Kellogg's reaction priceless?

Dan, I predicted and celebrated the Duke loss as well. But be careful with the gloating. Florida has earned a lot of the same emnity in just one season that it took Duke years to build. When Florida loses, just be ready for the same kind of gloating!

Good Night all, Talk to you tomorrow.

Dan we better have a live blog over on your site tomorrow.

Thank god the duke game was good because the other games sucked ass. It is funny that in one of my brackets I picked duke to win and in one I had them to lose. I figured they were ripe for an upset but they are duke after all they always find a way to win. When they showed laettner smirking at the end of the game I had to laugh. Lets hope tonights games are more exciting than the rest of todays ones.

The DC market is stuck with UNC 19 E Ken 3. This sucks. Make that 22-3.

Dan you have no right to cheer a Duke loss as you don't even support you alma mater.

My favorite part of the Duke loss was how tight Coach K's face was after the game. He looked like a cross between a Jack Russell terrier and a ticking bomb.

OnlyInboards.com said...

I loved how they just beat up those Dukies.... I think Coach K was pissed b/c he thought they played a little dirty... how does it feel NOW!!!! F**K DUKE!

(now, pleeaaaase don't let KU lose in the first round again this year.. pleeaaaassseeee!!!!)

I had Duke going to the Sweet 16 =(

Since 8-9 upsets aren't really upsets, has there ever been a first round where there was only one true upset on the first day?

Brian in Oxford said...

Shit! I had Duke in the elite 8, exactly like revscott called.

There's a guy in my pool at work that's 17 for 17 (including Niagara) so far....

i'm guessing IU soured a lot of people's chances at going 16/16 today.

For those who want to watch march madness on demand, but don't use windows, I've reverse enginered the ncaa site to enable it to be used from any machine that can play windows media.

I reccomend using vlc which you can get at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~spotter/ncaa/ncaa.cgi

hopefully they won't switch it up for me, but seems to basically work now, albiet not perfect. If anyone wants to help me make it better, should be fairly obvious how to contact me.

Not so good if you picked Duke for the Sweet 16. :(

JEAAAAAAAAALOUS! This year aside, we're still better than you.

The Duke hatred is ridiculous though. I don't understand, we don't cheat, we don't land the best recruiting class year after year, we play sound basketball, and we're academically legit.

I'm disappointed by the loss, but what can I do. VCU played for the miracle win, and they scored the miracle. I'm only upset that it feels like such a cheap loss. Stereotypical all or nothing underdog plan, full court press and jacking 3's. This isn't meant as an excuse or a disclaimer, there's just something cheap about these low seeds playing the 1st round like its the finals.

(My basic point is that VCU pulled out all the stops because winning in the 1st round makes their season a success. The fact that they're not playing to win the tournament sits sour with me. I know I'm not explaining myself well, and I'm ready for the flames)

it's remarkable how some small, southern private school's misfortune in men's basketball can make so many people so happy.

In my bracket for money, I was 15/16 yesterday. But I had Duke in the Final Four. I thought this was their "Colts" year, where they enter the tourney with absolutely no expectations and a slight chip on their shoulder and bounce back to make a good run. Plus, they had a bracket full of perennial chokers and late season underachievers. My only hope now is for Pitt or VCU to go on a run to the Final Four, keeping points from all of the UCLA and Kansas lovers.

Brian in Oxford said...

Hey Dan, just remember what you're setting yourself up for if or when Florida loses.

Mikepcfl said...

EVen as an admitted Duke hater I'm finding all the Duke bashing headlines as overboard.

I cant remember a loss that has made so many sportswriters so giddy. And these same sportswriters are the same ones who slurp up the Duke kool-aid most seasons. Next thing even "Dukie V" will pile on them.

I'm not giving any sympathy, but I'm not going to pile on either because there but for the grace of God goes me.

It was pretty freaking awesom

I was rooting for VCU last night, big time. However, I do find all the pleasure taken from a Duke loss a little over the top. I'm glad their out, but only because it may allow some different teams to get the spotlight this year.

I am being a somewhat hyprocritical though, because if/when Florida gets bounced I will run, not walk, to my PC to gloat on this sight. As much as the constant media slurping up to Duke bothers me, it doesn't compare to how annoying that arrogant punk Joakim Noah and the rest of the Florida bandwagon jumpers have been (led of course by our boy Dan who is so lame he can't even stick with his own alma mater and has to gloat about his wife's team. Friggin' pathetic). Of course a team with "the greatest frontline in the last 25 years of college basketball" (A direct Shanoff quote and one so ridiculous it defies desription) can't possibly be defeated can they? God, I hope so. Because if they go back to back Dan will be more insufferable than he already is (and that is saying something).

Again I'm not sure why he and many other take so much pleasure in a Duke loss, although I am glad VCU won. Maybe I'll understand if Maryland or some other team takes out Crybaby Noah and the boys.

MMOD is open now.

CMFost said...

Jason, stop trying to make excuses, they beat DUKE in the tourney in the first round. Every team has a bad day or an off year and I guess this year was Duke's turn.

Brian in Oxford said...

That's kinda like saying that the Bulls haven't been beating the Celtics, because Bill Russell and Larry Bird weren't in the jerseys.

mmmm beefy said...

if you watched Duke this season though they have blew game like that at least 4 times this season so it i really can't get to excited or be to surprised about it

Lame, Crumbbum

It's the tournament. Teams should be going all out all the time. You just basically said that Duke didn't try hard enough. If that's the case, then they earned their first round exit.
It's "cheap" for an underdog to play all out?? IT'S THE NCAA TOURNAMENT!! IT'S ONE AND DONE!! THIS ISN'T INTRAMURALS!!!!
Tell Scheyer to go play intramurals, brother.

Kevin said...

Holy crap, Dan...settle down. It's not like you went to UNC or anything...

Jared said...

I didn't say that Duke wasn't trying, or that it was cheap to play all out... I'm saying the VCU strategy left me with a sour taste. Duke obviously lost (kudos to VCU), but I don't feel beaten. The strategy is a gamble used by mid-majors with nothing to lose, and this time it worked. I just wish we had bowed out to a team that outplayed us.

sean said...

crumbbum, if you had paid attention to VCU at all this year, that's how they've always played. They're a pressing, guard-dominated team. Duke should have been prepared for it, they weren't and they lost. Sad to say, but Coach K got himself outcoached in this one.
