UPDATE 2: Ask and ye shall receive! Now THIS was a great day of games! (Even if the favorites dominated... except for hardly-mid-major Butler and suddenly-Cindy-ish 6-seed Vandy!) Like many, I was sad to see VCU get KO'ed, but at least it was a dramatic game. At this point, that's all we're looking for. And, after waiting around for two days, we finally got.
UPDATE 1: OK, so today is definitely an improvement on Round 1. Ohio State taken to the limit and now mid-major Butler knocking off big-conference Maryland (but given the styles of the two teams, you kind of had to see it coming... of course, I didn't on MY bracket, but that's another story.)
And Louisville and Texas A&M are in a tight one that should stay close the rest of the way.
ORIGINAL POST: Well, at least the Ohio State-Xavier game was an exciting one, even if OSU won the game (or, I should say, Xavier choked it away).
Worth noting: OSU played so much better without Oden. (And where was Oden down the stretch of regulation? Why isn't he demanding the ball? And why doesn't Matta run the O through him?)
Meanwhile, I can't believe Jim Nantz is shilling for Circuit City. It seems so... lowbrow for someone who hangs his hat on "A tradition unlike any other..."

Just imagine if the refs would have correctly called offensive basket interference at the end of the first half. Xavier wins by two.

That assumes the rest of the game unfolds exactly the same way despite the change.
Oden could have been called with an intentional foul as well but wasn't, so be it.
And the first screwjob goes to OSU. How could they not call a flagerant foul on Oden at the end? He just shoved the guy with two hands out of bounds. No play on the ball = flagerant foul. Instead of just two shots, it would have been two shots and the ball and the second missed free throw doesn't mean anything. Of course if you make that in the first place you have nothing to worry about.
I'm just tired of Maryland having to play these mid-majors who shoot nothing but 3's. It's like we're being attacked by the lilliputians (sp). Face us like men and not little pansies who have to shoot from 20 feet!
There is a reason that OSU does not run the offense through Oden, he doesn't move to make a D respect him.
As for Nantz, maybe he heard that he and Packer are going to be axed. (just wishful thinking on America's part)
Seth Davis and Clark Kellogg have both firmly planted their lips on Greg Oden's behind. That was the most blatent load of crap EVER.
There is no way that his not an intentional foul. Regardless of the ejection or whatever they are smoking, it deserved more than a regular foul.
There goes my first sweet 16 team. Thanks Butler. Now Florida has an even easier route to the final 4.
No one knows anything. I thought Butler was the team that started off the season strong and then lost its legs coming to the tourney. So what do they do? Win the first 2 games... believe no one when filling out your brackets because no one knows a damn thing.
Oh... what's the matter Mikepcfl? When I was at Butler (Class of 2000), we had names for people who made lame excuses when they lost... bitter bulldogs. We are all bitter bulldogs sometimes, and I think you are experiencing it right now.
Speaking of botched calls, how about that charge on DJ Strawberry with a minute to play? The Butler dude was moving, and under the basket. Instead of putting DJ on the line with a possibility to tie, Butler goes down and makes a 3.
*waits for BC fans to come in and act suprised that BC is in the game at half*
Seeya next year BC.
OT in the VCU/Pitt game with a great comeback by VCU! Double OT in the Vandy/Wash St game! How's this action for ya Dan?
Vandy wins. I have to believe that no one has any more perfect brackets. These are some great games today
i know this is a little late in the day...but i realized that no one, not even dan, picked up on the fact that xaivier did not foul anybody, up 3, when osu had the ball and HAD to hit that 3. a monkey could coach better than that and therefore i have no sympathy for xavier and i hate ohio state even more. oh well, osu are gators' bitches anyway. wouldn't mind seeing them in the final.
I continue to drop in the Quickie pool. Oh, that's impossible I was already in last place. Should have gone chalk. (But would that be fun)
dang it VCU, that would have been huge if they won
fuck u butler
fuck u butler
and that was a blocking fol no question,
uh if i can;t curse on this blog sorry
and i thought that the games today were great and made up for teh worst first round ever. xavier should have fouled or had a better play with 2 seconds left to go in the game.
To anyone who follows women basketball ... HUGE upset. MY Marist women beat Ohio State ... first Marist NCAA win EVER(men's or women's programs), first women MAAC win in the NCAA ... absolutely incredible. I'm happy to be a Marist senior
For all the people out there that couldn't see that Cook launched himself in the air when Oden pushed him are complete idiots!! I slowed it down and watched 15 times!! It was a foul, but not as bad as people think it was. There is no way Cook shoots himself in the air like he did, especially how tall Oden is and where he pushed him from. Oden would of had to been 5'7 not 7 foot for Cook to fly in the air like he did. So quit whining! Foul, yes... Interntional/flagrant/whatever...no. Good call refs.
It should have been a flagrant foul, but not on Oden. Number 12 (I think) is the one who lowered his shoulder and sent him flying.

Regardless, make the free throws and it doesn't matter. Just like when my Badgers lost to them.
