Saturday A.M. 08/11 A.M. (Very) Quickie

Tiger shoots a 63, tying the lowest score ever in a round of a major. It's not the same as WINNING a major, but it's another bullet-point moment of his career.

Bonds: 758.

Titans try to block Pac-Man from wrestling. As they should. (TNA says he'll be at the event.)

No Vick, no problem: Bobby Petrino's Falcons' offense just might be OK with Joey Harrington...

More NFL Preseason: The Vikings offense might not be OK... Randy Moss didn't play... The Saints offense was OK, but hardly prolific... Lots more games today.

Seriously: Is Romeo Crennel REALLY going to decide the starter for the preseason opener by a coin flip? If you're a Browns fan, that has to be totally depressing. Unless he truly wants to undermine the confidence of his QBs, what kind of self-respecting coach would say/do that? I guess the Brady Quinn Era can't start fast enough for Crennel.

NFL Injury Watch: Turns out Kenny Irons, Bengals rookie RB, will be out for the season. Here's to a full recovery and a return in 2008.

Ankiel Watch: No home runs. Ah well. Can't be a Cinderella every time.

MLB Stud: Joba Chamberlain. Forget Eric Gagne: The home-grown Chamberlain is the single-best pitching pickup that any playoff contender added to their roster this summer.

MLB Stud: Bobby Jenks recorded his 38th straight retired batter, tying the AL record and making it the 4th-longest streak of all time.

Lance's Discovery Team folds: One more sign that cycling is all but finished.

I wonder who else realized that Fred Thompson was in Necessary Roughness. That alone makes him the candidate to vote for. That movie is hilarious.

Yankees now tied for the AL wild card.

Holy shit Shiek I forgot he was in that movie. What a cast that one had, Scott Bakula, Larry Miller, Sinbad, Jason Bateman, Robert Loggia, Hector Elizondo and of course the smoking Kathy Ireland yeah she and Elle McPherson did not affect my childhood at all.

Wow Jenks ties one of the more impressive records and no mention of it on ESPN.com's front page.

Can you imagine if Mariano was doing this? He'd get Bonds-type of coverage.

I got to see a good bit of Tiger's round. It was amazing. I can't believe that putt on 18 didn't drop.

I love watching players on the top of their game, and that was almost unreal

Joba was down right filthy last night.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who loved that movie!

Judging a team's offense based on preseason games is a waste of time especially for a team that has it's offense in tack from last year like the Saints. It's best to keep it as vanilla as possible to give opposing defenses little tape to watch

Can't be a Cinderella every time, but he's on pace for every other time. Rick Ankiel makes me hate the Cardinals less for being a crappy team that just happened to run into the Tigers at the right time to win a world series.

Come on Dan, you know there's no better way to make a decision that isn't going to impact you one way or the other than with a good ole fashioned coin toss.

So they were talking about the heat at the PGA today and a dude says that you need to hydrate, stay away from caffine, yadda yadda...About 10 mins later they interview Daly and asked him what he has in the bag for refreshement and to keep himself going, I shit you not: "I got 4 Diet Cokes, 10 packs of smokes, flints and lighter fluid. We worry about balls and that other stuff later."

Is this guy playing in a Saturday scramble or a PGA major? Wow, I love this guy.

Cycling is not finished.

I agree on Chamberlain being the best addition. Gagne is better but means less to the Red Sox who are going to win the AL East. Yanks need some pitchers if they are going to beat out Seattle and Detroit.

cm instead of worrying about how the yanks will do against above .500 teams, maybe you should be worried about your sox's performance against sub .500 teams...

I realize I'm biased because I have Okajima in a league where holds count, but didn't the Red Sox upset what was the best bullpen in the league by trading for Gagne? The last week has been less reliable than any point in the year.
