As a Wazzu fan, I appreciate the props in the column today on how the team did in the opening rounds.
That said, I don't think we match up any worse with a team than we do with UNC (in terms of athleticism and defending inside). The first thing I did when the brackets came out was check which region UNC and Tennessee were in compared to Wazzu. Unfortunately, they drew both schools.
Oh well.
Re: "UNC fans might wish their Heels had bigger gut-checks in the first weekend."
You obviously missed the ACC Tournament (not that I would blame you) when the Heels beat VTech by 2. Or all three games against Clemson. Or the Duke game at Cameron. (Etc. etc.)
This team isn't like the UNC squad from a year ago that couldn't close out a tough game. In fact, with the notable exception of the Maryland game, I think the Tar Heels have shown a knack for eeking out a 'W' under tough conditions.
Hell, you could say that this team has had far too many *gut checks*. Not that it'll make WSU any more of a daunting opponent than they already are for the high tempo Heels.
Here's some great footage of Drew Lavender.
