Reader Reaction

Would you prefer if I created each topic in an individual post OR ran everything, Quickie-style in one long post? Give your opinion in the Comments section. Thanks. -- D.S.

(The pro is that it's all in one place. The con is that you can't comment on an individual item as easily. Hmm...)

Some topics are better off by themselves. Easier to talk about that way. But then there are like little things that you might be better off grouping together. There are just some stories that are meatier than others. Also (I don't know if I missed any...very possible) it would be nice to see some of your comments to our comments in the "Reader Reaction".

I like the way so far. For things that happen and should be commented on quickly (like usa hoops), individual posts are great. The longer posts are great for the collection of thoughts on things (like the whole college review). Great work no matter what, keep it up.

For the most part I like the Quickie style breakdown. I am the type of reader that is not likely to comment on your posts (what am I doing here then?? I have no idea), so I like them all in one place. But if you chose to go with individual posts, I'd still read. Just keep writing Dan, I like your stuff!

Today's was too long. I forgot half the topics as I started to comment.
Your choice on how to do it, but I would prefer a small handful of stand alone topics to comment on.

ALONG with a rundown of lesser topics.

I don't care as long as you change your pick to Texas winning! Please don't "Shanoff" the Buckeyes!!!

I think the comments so far have it about right. The MQ dealt with several big topics on an individual (or 'Studs and Duds') basis, followed by a free-for-all, so how about three or four detailed posts, followed by a round-up of other news/analysis?

Anonymous said...

Individual posts for the main topics, then mix together all the minor news in a one post "free for all". And I can't believe you've doomed the Buckeyes.

Anonymous said...

I like it so far, because, for instance, I have nothing to say about Ohio State, but i have some input on other topics.

Major stories (i.e. Mack Brown and Texas) in their own, and then quick wrap-ups for the smaller ones all together.

i agree with phil...quickie style rundown of the morning's hot topics/headlines (as opposed to reading through several posts for each topic)...good for short attention span of the internet...and i like that you have links and URLs for further reading...either way, keep on writing!

Also, how about some feedback comments. Part of what made the MQ a perfect compliment to the DQ was to hear your counter our points on what you've said.

i like the quickie style but if you want to expand your style of writing to more than just quickie that's fair enough. either way it's great but my vote is for quickie-style

Anonymous said...

Expanding on what chris uk said, you should have a morning "Studs & Duds" thread where us in the commentariat can throw out the studs and duds of the (yester)day. You may even need to have seperate NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL S&D threads. Otherwise, just have a morning round-up post/thread, and have seperate threads for bigger stories (playoffs, super bowl, etc). my $.02

Which reminds me...
Mega DUD: The Cubs. Last place in the worst division in baseball. 'nuff said. (wa0b0t!! - we are 0wned by 0ther team)

Yeah you should reply more to our comments so we dont feel like we are talking to ourselves.

Anonymous said...

A mix is fine. I'm sure by now you know which topics are going to generate larger responses so those should be individual, but quick thoughts can be grouped.

Too many big topics in one post makes following one subject in the comments a little brutal.

Anonymous said...

I agree that major stories should have their own posts and others can be grouped. Either way keep up the good work -- glad to have you back in my life again.....why can't I quit you??!?

J-P said...

I like the idea of individual posts. It makes it easier to hone in on topics of interest and to work our way down the list. Regardless, love the blog and happy I can still get my quickie like fix in the mornings. I was worried.

Anonymous said...

I would like this blog to look and be exactly like the Daily Quickie.

Anonymous said...

Individual posts.

Chris said...

I like an individual post or two, and then a wrapup of the morning, but whatever works for you is good.

Jeffrey Siegel said...

Quickie was my morning life's blood - so anything that is similar is fine with me - jsut keep it pumping Dan!

Badass Of The Year said...

I'm just happy you are still around! Quickie Style is good for the ADD crowd, I like getting the brief recaps. If it's a major topic then giving it it's own post is nice so you can go a little more in depth. In any case, do whatever you feel like, we are just grateful to have anything to read from you.

Anonymous said...

Individual,

Comments are more in tune to the topic at hand.

Anonymous said...

Individual posts. But I also agree with what kurt (ct) said—your lack of presence on these post pages is a little off-putting. Enough people have asked about what happened with ESPN, or they've asked direct questions, and they've been ignored. I think people are going to stop coming to these pages if they feel you don't go to them yourself.

quickie style

Anonymous said...

quickie style, 1 long post; please

Anonymous said...

split up would be good, but maybe have a grouping to show what day the stories are from? A header if you will.

Anonymous said...

Individual Posts. Without a doubt.

Anonymous said...

All in one please. The quickie lives!

Anonymous said...

quickie-style does it for me.

Qwagmire said...

Quickie Style unless its a big story, then an article on that.

Zach said...

I say lump general topics together (CFB, for example), but today's massive post was a bit hard to get through...

Anonymous said...

Individual posts for topics is much better.

Anonymous said...

I like the comprehensive Quickie-style digest of news/opinion - there aren't too many online sources that provide that. I think that format is what lured most of us here to the blog.

Go Northwestern!

you run this place just make a decision. You can't please everyone, so do whatever works best for you numnuts.

Whatever is easiest to get you to comment on Evgeni Malkin finally making it to Pittsburgh!! Can I be the blogspot official hockey correspondent?

The Rover said...

I thought I liked it in one chunk, but the individual comments are pretty great, so I now change my vote to "split 'em up".

Anonymous said...

I have to go with Individual Posts, I never sounded off on the Quickie, but I just wanted to tell you that you are a great writer and the quickie will be missed, I dont even bother heading to the ESPN.com page in the morning now, because that is how I started my day. Thank you for making this blog and staying in touch with the readers.

I think you should do both. Just use your best guess at the best topics and single post them. Then do a quick hitter on the rest.

What's Gabe doing right now?

Anonymous said...

I'd have to agree with qwagmire on this one.

Anonymous said...

I agree with whoever said more feedback on our comments.

Anonymous said...

I like the collection of stories all in one place for the morning quickie style round up, then individual posts as other items break through out the day. Keep it up, this is turning out to be the:

Best. Blog. Ever.

(As an '05 grad of OSU, I am proud that you are seeing the light vs. Texas)

Dan Shanoff said...

Hey everyone: Huge thanks for all the input. I think the vibe I'm getting is that the biggest stories of the day should get individual treatment, so you/we can tee off on them like they deserve. And then the smaller stuff, I'll put into one wrap-up. Glad everyone is enjoying the blog so far! -- Dan

Anonymous said...

Hey Dan... any chance you will start a daily chat room?

Anonymous said...

No, no, leave it all on one page, Quickie-style (is that related to doggie-style?). I love your quick hits each day, all moshed together like one big sports-gasm.

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, and Hook 'Em Horns!

Boxcar Fritz said...

my vote is for you to get over your celebrity and to do whatever ever the fuck you want (in turn increasing your celebrity... what a vicisous cycle.)

marcomarco said...

Honestly, I don't care as long as you provide me a means to waste more and more company time per day.

Thanks and keep it up Dan-O. You rock.

marcomarco said...

Small request, can the ads and archive links be positioned on the left?

Its much easier on the eyes when reading with a maximized window.

Anonymous said...

why wasn't the DQ picked up by another sports site?

Anonymous said...

Why can't we just get the Daily Quicky?

Anonymous said...

I like the idea of breaking it down into separate areas. Like keep all college football and nfl separate and separating out each sport into one comments section. Keep up the good work.

Anonymous said...

I'd say keep it as Quickie format... A lot of us (well, me at least) miss waking up and heading to Page 2 to check the Quickie.

Plus, making all those posts would be a pain, right?

Anonymous said...

As to your dilema in whether to post individually or quickie-style, I say LET DEMOCRACY RULE! I think you would agree that one must read in order to comment, but not everyone comments. Thus, logic dictates that there are more readers than commenters. With that fact established you must do what is best for the greater good of mankind. Make your posts easier to READ by using Quickie-Style all topics in one stew format. I have a feeling that Commentors will figure out how to leave you their comments.

Just my opinion,

PUNTE said...

Gotta go one topic per. No two ways about it.

Anonymous said...

Dan,
Some topics deserve a lone post and then others could become a potpurri style with many different topics in them. I think doing a little of both will satisfy all of us dedicated readers. I am just glad to have my quickie back. Simmons just won't post enough to keep me satisfied. Great work!

all in one

Anonymous said...

one topic per post, please.

eirishis said...

I think while it remains in a blog format, you should have each topic in its own post. If you start to develop your own site, maybe that would be different.

Anonymous said...

One long post unless there is a major development you want to comment on.

micah said...

i think i like them all in one big hunk. formal-like, and then you can add your little tidbits as the day progresses in a more informal form, should you choose so. but, you know, not "quickie"-style, for you're on a new bit of life, eh? the quickie is dead, long live the quickie.

and, fwiw, this is the only blogspot blog i'll make it a point to read. why these guys don't do rss is beyond me...

Anonymous said...

Did we ever find out why ESPN.com fired this douche? Oh yeah, he is a hack.

Anonymous said...

Especially for ridiculously long posts like this morning's, splitting them up is the way to go.

But if you group together the MLB posts, and the NCAAFB posts, and (eventually) the NFL game recap posts, that would make sense.

Kevin said...

I like the biggest stories on individual posts, but the smaller stuff all on one recap.

Anonymous said...

its weird, its seems like its more to read when you post the stuff individually

Wayman Fam said...

I like the Quickie Style for the less meatie stories and individual stories for stuff with some teeth.
