Special-Edition Thursday CFB Live-Comment:
West Virginia at Louisville

Sorry for the lack of updates this afternoon, but for those with the biggest game of the year (so far) in college football on their schedule for tonight, I invite you to add your pre-game, in-game and post-game commentary here. -- D.S.

I think WVU wins by 10. Louisville witout their RB Bush is not a very good team. They've beaten a crappy Miami team and that's about it. (I know, I know - WVU hasn't beaten anybody either. But they DID beat Georgia in last year's bowl game).

At any rate, this is not even close to the biggest game of the season (so far). FLA/LSU, MICH/ND, and of course TEX/OSU were all much bigger games.

I'm a Big East alumn (go Friars!) myself but Big East football is still unproven. These are not the 3rd and 5th best teams in the country, by a long shot.

worldwide reader-

dude, i love that username, seriously

and u r incorrect wvu beat maryland, in fact if u check my post listed in the wvu/louisville section from this afternoon you will see that that is the only team any ubeaten big east team has beaten

thats why this game isn't as important/good as everyone thinks

besides the 3 and 5 rankings this is a couple of ok teams playing in primetime

I think it's a great game in primetime on Thursday between two talented teams. We'll have to see if they live up to the billing and show the country something tonight. I have to think too that Tex/OSU and FLA/Auburn were bigger games so far this year. But you have to admit this game has a "big" feel to it. We'll see...

Both teams seem to be playing sloppy so far. So many mistakes.

Why the balls do the Louisville receivers keep falling over ten yards after making catches, in the wide open field, on their own turf???

Annoying.

Guy -

Yes, I don't think it's as important as everyone thinks either ... but so far it's been pretty damn exciting.

Nothing like recovering a fumble and then giving it right back for a TD. Not really impressed by either of these teams right now ... I'm beginning to see the SEC's argument.

Trey (formerly TF) said...

As entertaining as this game is, we've seen THREE turnovers in 3 minutes. BE football just has looked bad in most games I've watched this year. Turnovers happen. 3 in 3 minutes though...

Wow, that was some pretty weak punt coverage ... you think the WVU guys thought the flag was on Louisville?

So is Slaton actually injured or is he faking a problem with his hand as a fumble excuse?

man, what a disappointing night. ohio st, michigan, florida, and auburn would bitch slap both these teams. and i fucking detest the SEC and their myopic fans, but they're right. this is bush league.

Was it me or did anyone else hear Fowler say, "John Holmes came around that tight end" at the very beginning of the game?

Tehee!

If Rutgers can beat Louisville in 7 days ... oh yeah

Christian Thoma said...

Apparently the team that can't tackle beat the team that can't hold on to the ball.

Quoted for truth.

The way ESPN is pumping Louisville after this game you'd think they should jump Ohio State.

Honestly, I am biased, I am a UF fan. However, as entertaining as that game was, that was just BAD football in many spots.

It reminds me of how ESPN tried to glorify the Miami/FSU game on Labor Day as two teams with such great defenses that the several turnovers and sacks their offenses took were the result of it.

This was a case of two very good offenses and just terrible defenses that couldn't get it done.

Louisville being undefeated does deserve to be 3 for now, but they would get smacked back to the stoneage by Ohio State or Michigan.

i think we seriously need to consider the idea

BOTH TEAMS HAVE TO DROP IN THE POLLS

louisville:
gave up 541 yards including 319 rushing
gave up 26 first downs
allowed Pat White (the frickin QB) to run for 4 TDs...has anyone ever heard the term "shadow"
recievers favorite hobby is falling down in the open field

west virginia:
allowed 466 yards including 353 passing
allowed a 40 yard punt return for TD in a combination worst kick/coverage ever
fumbled 7 times and lost 3 of them
recievers favorite hobby is dropping passes for first down yardage

this game was retarded

what if either team was facing OSU/USC/MICH/UFL/TEX/Auburn/TENN/LSU/CAL/ND/ARK or even Boise St. out there tonight???

i say both teams would lose by 30 (not exaggerating)

which beggs the question....

CAN YOU DROP IN THE POLLS AFTER BEATING A TOP 5 (UNDEAFEATED) TEAM BECAUSE YOU STUNK AND THE WHOLE NATION NOW KNOWS YOU DON'T DESERVE A SINGLE-DIGIT NUMBER RANKING?

i say no

you can't, doesn't mean you shouldn't....

FINALLY.

Louisville looked bad enough that I believe Rutgers is going to beat them on Thursday.

The biggest game in my little college's history!!!!

Go Knights!

I'm with you mirthy, just because the defenses couldn't get it together, doesn't mean the teams don't deserve a chance at the national title. You could say that about USC last year, their defense wasn't all that good. And who said this was a glorified high school game needs a reality check. This game was exciting, a good shootout (up until the 4th). Get over yourself about tight games that only produced 2 field goals and a touchdown. Those games are just as bad from the other angle - no exciting plays.

As a Buckeye, I was a little scared that WVU might sneak into the title game and with their offense, make the Bucks sweat(assuming they beat UM). I don't know what the hell's going to happen at the end of this season, but I don't think Louisville and Rutgers will escape undefeated (I think Rutgers will beat 'Ville and WVU will beat Rutgers). Now that would only leave Boise State to claim the #2 spot - HA! (they'll be undefeated - but certainly not title contenders).

if you watched the game then you know that they didn't just stink on the defensive side...they just stunk REALLY REALLY BAD on the defensive side

OK, let's calm down a little. This is the NCAA, not the NFC East. It's not going to be perfect football. Before we jump all over Louisville for their allergic reaction to tackling, let's remember that UF can't go an entire offensive drive without an illegal procedure, Auburn and Tennessee like to almost lose to bad teams, Ohio State struggled with Cincy, etc. Point being, maybe Lousiville/WVU are a rung down on the ladder from the super-elite teams, but they shouldn't forfeit the season and transfer to 1-AA.

Er, yeah, but they ended up winning by 34. Louisville struggled a lot more than OSU did with Cincy, and only won by 6.

While I won't go so far as to call that HS Football, I saw nothing last night that indicated either team should be in the National Championship discussion--especially with one loss. While I would be ok with an undefeated Louisville making the big game, I don't think they can keep up with OSU or Michigan.

people can bitch some more about that and then watch WVU trounce yet another overrated 1-loss SEC team like last year.

Trust me, no one is interested in watching the WVU bowl game now, except maybe some WVU and, of course, the overrated 1-loss SEC team they play. Although to be honest, I don't see WVU in the BCS this year. What would need to happen, Louisville lose twice? What happens if WVA beats Rutgers and Rutgers beat Louisville?

I hate to say I told you so - but I seem to remember Dan hyping up WVU since the beginning of the season and I continued to say - wait until the Louiseville game.

This was the easiest pick of the season - that WVU defense sucked. And yeah you can say what you want about Slaton fumbling 3 times but the fact remains that Louiseville has been the best Big East team all season and it finally was proven last night.

Well, I've been saying it for 10 months, and maybe now, people will actually agree with me. The WVU win over UGA started the biggest hype machine ever for an undeserving team.

Absolutely NO defense. Offense is impressive, but not unstoppable, and a team with a good defense(I'm a UGA alum and we don't have one) can shut down a team that can't complete a pass 8 yards downfield more than once a game.

WVU did NOT rout UGA. WVU routed UGA in the first quarter...after that? Nope. 10 points over 3 quarters. UGA fought back and showed how bad the defense was, scoring on like 5 of 7 drives after the first quarter.

OSU, LSU, UF, UT, UM, AU, ARK would load up the box, force White to pass, and that's just not good for WVU.
