Pats vs. Giants in Super Bowl XLII

Here are the stakes in Super Bowl XLII between the Patriots and Giants:

The Pats are playing to go 19-0 and to complete the most perfect season in pro sports history.

The Giants are playing for nothing less than exorcising the ghost of the 2004 ALCS, when the Yankees blew a 3-0 series lead to the Red Sox.

If the Giants could deny the Pats -- and Pats fans -- this most-perfect of accomplishments (and bragging rights), it would even the balance.

I never thought anything would ever come close to allowing New York fans to recover the bragging rights from the 2004 ALCS; beating the Pats and denying them 19-0 would do it.

(But the Giants are NOT beating the Pats.)

PS: Don't forget to take the poll. If you aren't a natural Pats or Giants fan, would you rather see the Patriots go 19-0 or see them lose?

Your confidence in the Pats winning has helped me realize that the Giants will beat them. Your "sure things" aren't doing so well this year.

So we will finally get that Brady-Manning game we've been waiting for...

As a Mets fan, I greatly enjoyed the 2004 playoffs. The Giants aren't playing to excorcise any ghosts for me.

I am just glad that I don't have to read the use of the "Slurper Bowl" phrase for two weeks.

I'm a Colts/Titans fan, but I'm pulling for the Patriots to win the Super Bowl. Why? Because this will silence Mercury Morris and the rest of the 1972 Dolphins once and for all.

Why do the Giants have ANYTHING to do with the Yankees?
Why lump such a cold heartless team in with a feel-good underdog story?

Absurd construct Dan...you can probably count on 1 hand the number of Giants players who give a flying fart about redeeming the Ultimate Choke.

There certainly is a set of Yankees fans who are also Giants fans, but the intersection of that group and Giants is more likely zero than not...

excellent point Dan. Im a Yankee/Giants fan and this win would definitely be just as huge maybe even bigger than the 04 ALCS and would be sweet.
