Wednesday 03/12 A.M. Quickie:
Love, Oral, Cuse, Kobe, Fitz, Daly, More

Today's Names to Know in today's Sporting News column:

Kevin Love, Tyler Hansbrough, Oral Roberts, Butler, Syracuse, Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, Larry Fitzgerald, Vernon Gholston, John Daly, Pat Tillman and More!

Including:
Why Kevin Love is better than Tyler Hansbrough...
Why I'll always love Oral Roberts...
Why Butler's seeding is a fascinating subject...
Why the Big East Tournament is the best...
Why Kobe loves sports bloggers...
Why Nick Young finally showed up...
Why Larry Fitzgerald is worth the money...
Why Vernon Gholston is the new Chris Long...
Why John Daly is John Daly...
Why Tommy Lasorda needs a kids' TV show...
Why Pat Tillman is a Hall of Famer...
And more... after the jump!

Today's Bonus Post: The long-simmering argument -- my freshmen vs. your sophs, juniors and seniors -- takes center court. And, honestly: My squad will crush yours.

I love the small-conference tournament title games, but there's something about that all-Wednesday-afternoon-long string of Big East games that bridges the divide between those small-league tourney finals and the start of the power conference quarterfinals.

I don't doubt Gholston is a very good player, but he seems to be taking the Mike Mamula route up the draft boards, which should be a little concerning if you're a fan of the Dolphins or the Rams. ...but since I'm a fan of the evil Patriots, I'd love to see Gholston go #1 or #2 and have Chris Long be the player that slips to #7.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your argument that Kevin Love is better than Tyler Hansbrough.

I could see a Hansbrough-Love matchup being a close one, but not based off of your argument. This is the player of THIS year award. It should not or isn't based on NBA potential or what a player did or did not do last year. Your argument for Kevin Love is purely speculative and hypothetical. If UCLA loses in the second round, then your entire argument is destroyed, and by your own admission, Love's legacy would be of a loser, and not of a great Pac 10 or UCLA player.

When looking at the stats, Hansbrough and Love share similarities. But just because Love plays on the team that you picked to win doesn't mean that he is the best player. Heck, Kevin Durant was player of the year last year. Is his legacy that of a loser? Was he not the best player because his team did not get to the second weekend?

I love reading your columns, but your anti-UNC attitude really turns this reader off. Not because I'm a Heels fan, but because I like seeing rationale in arguments, and honestly, there is nothing rationale in your argument for Kevin Love, only pure speculation and hypotheticals.

I can see the argument for Love vs. Hansbrough, but not based off your criteria. Thank goodness SN doesn't use the same criteria you use.

I'll continue to read. You're a great writer. But I strongly disagree with this notion, and will probably be rooting for UCLa to lose early to foil your argument.
