If USC dismantles Oregon State (as they should), it's easy for people like me to point to and say it was because the Beavers sucked, just as much as it was USC being awesome -- more proof that USC's schedule is too easy to legitimize their place in the BCS ahead of a Big 12 or SEC champ.
But if it's a close game, then USC can't put away the puff-pastry on their schedule; more evidence that they are hardly a "lock" to be in the BCS title game in the event there are three unbeaten conference champs between USC, the Big 12 and the SEC.
Obviously, USC will try to rack up style points. But it's a real conundrum.

Dan, I understand your argument about USC's soft schedule, and I don't even completely disagree with it, they do have a soft schedule. However, it really looks like your intentions are more about boosting the SEC then de-legitimizing USC.... if that makes sense.
There are a few things about USC, first their defense is fast... not "SEC Fast" but near NFL fast. No matter how much you want to knock them down, they currently are more than worthy for the NC game (Right with Oklahoma, which IMHO is more balanced than USC, but still has an amazing defense).
Personally, I want to see the two best teams in the NC game, and I believe, though I could be wrong, you just want to see an SEC team in the NC game. And if it ends up being USC vs a Big 12 team, you'll just go on and on about how the SEC conference is so tough, and they beat up on eachother etc
Which again, is fine... but if you have an issue with that, don't you have an issue with your "The regular season is the De Facto playoffs of College football"?
Also, it's been like two years... don't you think it's about time you open up comments again yet?
Just saying.
Are we seriously talking about jockeying for BCS title game position before USC's third game of the year? Let's get them to 9 or 10 wins and then we can talk about whether they just need to beat Notre Dame or if they need to obliterate them in the interest of BCS ranking.
You know that bit I said about USC's Defense being near NFL Fast... yea I take that back.
Atleast for this game, they are looking super slow.
um...so, the "puff pastry" is up 21-0 at the half, does that mean that everyone arguing that OSU wasn't a cupcake was right, or is this another unbelievably huge upset of USC in the Pac-10?
That Earthquake felt in CA was everyone jumping off the USC bandwagon...
Who knew that USC would play two OSU teams in a row, and that Oregon State would be the better of the two?
The real question is, is this going to force Dan to admit that the Pac-10 might be better than he thought? Nah, he'll just say USC was completely overrated, and his blog poll MUST have been right.
Let me be the first to say: uh were we REALLY talking BCS title game 12 hours ago for USC? Also, how much does the Big Ten suck now?
To all of you who doubted Dan's wisdom regarding USC--no words are necessary! At this point, a majority of the teams in the USC, not just LSU, Georgia, or Florida would wipe the floor with USC!!
Jeff...you, um, may want revisit some of your earlier comments after the game last night...ouch.
The Beavers win!!
It's not how much does the Big Ten (+1) suck. It's how much does Ohio State suck. Penn State did beat Oregon State by 30 after all so the confrence has that going for it
Ooops...that's what I get for posting a comment before 7 AM! I meant to say "a majority of teams in the SEC could wipe the floor with USC"!
